Drink lots of water — Massage releases toxins from your muscles and tissues, and you need to drink plenty of water to help your body flush them away. Continue this over the next few days to avoid feeling tired from the accumulated toxins.
Get some rest — A massage is a therapeutic treatment that helps your body to heal. It is always a good idea to eat lightly and get some rest after a massage. This will allow the healing process to begin. If you are immediately active after a massage you will get less benefit from it.
Don’t stress your body — A strenuous workout or lifting weights is not advised after a massage. Your muscles need to return to a normal condition and you can create stress if you workout too soon.
Enjoy the side effects — We use oils during your massage and leave them there deliberately. Those oils will continue to moisturize your skin and provide a pleasant scent that is calming and relaxing. Take the time to enjoy it!
Take a hot Epsom salts bath— Epsom salts are derived from magnesium sulfate and are readily absorbed into the skin. They will assist in the detoxification process after a massage, so draw yourself a hot bath with a couple of cups of Epsom salts and soak for 10-12 minutes. Your body will thank you.
Use alternating temperatures on sore areas — If you have any muscle soreness consider using a combination of ice and moist heat for 10 minutes each to improve circulation and promote muscle relaxation. Soreness can result when our massage therapist found areas of stress and tension and used their massage techniques to remove them.
